The headstone of Mrs. Rosa Carr Potts celebrates the life she lived and the legacy she left behind. Born to Jim Carr and his wife Bell Campbell on February 21, 1898 in Abbeville, South Carolina, Rosa Carr Potts dedicated her life to the Gethsemane Baptist Church through their Missionary Society organized by the Usher board. She also organized the Gospel Choir. Furthermore, she was employed with Davidson College through the Laundry Department and the mother of Lula Bell Houston.
Rosa Carr Potts died on Saturday, April 24th, 1999 at the age of 101 years old. The funeral was held on April 30, 1999 at 3 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church located in Davidson, NC. Reverend Clement Morris officiated the services. A wake was held at Bryant-Lytle-Young Funeral Home in Mooresville, North Carolina. Her headstone is simple yet elegant. The name she was given due to her maternal instinct is at the top of the headstone written in quotations and cursive: “Mama Rose”. Her full name Rosa Carr Potts is in the middle with the dates of her birth and death below it. On the left of the headstone, there is a church window and a pretty rose flower that lives at the bottom of the window, slightly tilted.
