Biography
Talmadge Otho Conner fondly remembered as Mr. Talmadge Connor led a life defined by service, family, and community. Born on September 4, 1921, to Bertha and Charlie Conner, he grew up in Mooresville, North Carolina along with five siblings. While his formal education in the Mecklenburg County School system was limited, his life was rich with experiences.

He worked at the Delberg Cotton Mill (present-day Hurt Hub) before being drafted into World War II. He received an honorable discharge in 1947. After returning home, he married Cecelia Simolton Conner in 1947 and embarked on a loving family journey. Their family blossomed with four daughters: Bertha Lee Morrow, Castella Alexander, Margaret Ross, and Jacqueline Connor, and three sons: Charlie Michael Conner, Talmadge Conner, and Rodney Howard.

For over four decades, Conner diligently worked on the Dormitory Custodial Staff at Davidson College. Leaving an indelible mark, Davidson students recognized him in the 1982 Quips and Cranks yearbook.

A spiritual man, he actively participated in the faith community at Torrence Chapel AME Zion Church in Cornelius, NC. Affiliated with the Democratic Party, Talmadge O'Conner was a registered voter in Iredell County, North Carolina, reflecting his strong ties to the local community. In his later years, he continued to reside in the family home in Mooresville. He passed away on June 3, 2003.
